Lady ‘Cats roar; Hornets come out on top

BOGUE CHITTO — Shasta Porter had a double-double Thursdaynight, firing in 11 points and grabbing 10 rebounds to lead theBogue Chitto Lady Bobcats to a 44-30 win over the Loyd Star LadyHornets.
Loyd Star’s Tyler Williford pumped in a game-high 28 points todirect the Hornets to a 58-53 win over the Bobcats. Willifordgrabbed 8 rebounds, made 3 steals and had 2 assists.
Bogue Chitto travels West Lincoln Tuesday night in Region 7-1Abasketball play. Loyd Star entertains Piney Woods tonight in Region6-2A action.
Bogue Chitto 44, Loyd Star 30
The Lady ‘Cats (12-9, 7-3) jumped on the Lady Hornets (9-14,4-5) in the first quarter for a 16-9 lead. At halftime, BogueChitto went on a 12-7 run to push their lead to 28-16 at the half.Going into the final frame, the ‘Cats commanded a 34-24 lead.
“We played sloppy the whole night,” said Bogue Chitto girlscoach Christi Terrell. “We did just enough to win. We must pick itup on the boards.”
Kimberlee Thomas also scored a double-double, netting 10 pointsand collecting 14 rebounds. Meleah Brown pulled down 6 reboundsmade 3 steals and had 2 assists.
Hailey Ratcliff, Dakota Brooks and Laura Britt paced the LadyHornets with 6 points apiece. Sones led off the backboards with 7rebounds followed by Shannon Chester and Ratcliff with 5 reboundsapiece. Chester also led with 7 steals and had 3 assists.
“We cannot score,” stated Loyd Star girls coach Lori Britt. “Weplayed hard defense but could not score.”

In the boys game, Bogue Chitto’s Dontae Ratcliff scored 7 of his14 points in the final minute cutting the Loyd Star lead to threepoints before Matthew Henderson nailed a pair of free throws in thefinal seconds to push the lead to five points.
“We played sloppy in the first half,” said LoydStar boys coach Gene (Moochie) Britt. “But we picked it up in thesecond half. Both teams played hard, We managed to hit our freethrows and made the plays to win.”
The Hornets (11-10, 4-5) were10 of 19 from the free throw line.The ‘Cats were 8 of 15.
Adding support to the Loyd Star win with 13 points, 2 rebounds,4 steals and 3 assists was Henderson. Drew Case finished with 8points, 10 rebounds and 2 steals. Ricky Barnes also collected 10rebounds.
“Loyd Star did a good job,” said Bogue Chitto boys coach AndrewSmithie.
Alonzo Miner also scored 14 points for Bogue Chitto (8-12, 6-4)and added 8 rebounds, 3 steals and 2 assists. Keyouna Perkinsscored 10 points and grabbed 5 rebounds. Tops off the backboardswith 11 rebounds was Nic Hatten. Ratcliff also collected 3rebounds, made 1 steals and had 6 assists.
Junior Varsity Results
The Loyd Star boys held off Bogue Chitto for a 34-30 win.
Steven Watts paced Loyd Star with 14 points.
Scoring 13 points for Bogue Chitto was Justin Gaines.
