Loyd Star’s Britt signs football pact with Co-Lin

Loyd Star senior Michael Britt excelled on the football field.Britt, who stands 6-foot and weights 205 pounds played both runningback and linebacker this past season for Hornet head coach JoshThibodeaux. Britt also excels on the baseball field.

Friday afternoon, Britt signed a football scholarship with theCo-Lin Wolves. He is undecided on a major at this time.

“I wanted to play,”‘ said Britt about signing with the Wolfpack.”They are close to home. And they gave me a full scholarship.”

Britt, who was The DAILY LEADER’S Co-Most Valuable DefensivePlayer on the 2005 All-Lincoln County Football Team, runs a 40-yarddash in 4.69. He bench presses 315 pounds and squats 460.

On defense, Britt helped make 115 tackles, including 35 solostops and 8 quarterback sacks. Against McLaurin, he made 18 acareer-best tackles.

Britt was named to the MAC Class 2A All-State Team. He has over430 tackles since starting on the varsity team as a freshman.

During the 2005 season, Britt rushed the football for 646 yardsand scored 7 touchdowns.

“They (Co-Lin coaches) talked to me about playing strong safety,maybe linebacker if I gain some weight,” stated Britt.

Thibodeaux said that Britt was the first Loyd Star footballsignee since 2001 when defensive end Adam Speeg signed.

“Its good to get another Loyd Star player up there,” statedThibodeaux. “Hopefully we can get some more there.”

Thibodeaux praised Britt for his ability to know where the ballwas located.

“Michael has the knack to know where the ball is on defense,”explained Thibodeaux. “Everything he gives is 100 percent, untilthe horn goes off.”

Britt was the big sparkplug that helped the Hornets on bothoffense and defense this year.

“He (Britt) can bring leadership,” said Coach Davis.”He has ahardworking desire at Loyd Star. He has a strong character and agood home background. We are glad to have him.”

“It’s been a good four years with him,” added Thibodeaux. “He’stough to lose. But I’ll be able to watch him next year. He’ll be agood one at Co-Lin.”

Britt said he appreciated all the help he got from Thibodeaux.”Coach Thibodeaux pushed me a lot to be a leader on the footballfield. He pushed me in the weight room.”

Britt added. “I’d like to give all the credit to God. And thankmy parents for supporting me.”

He is the son of Mike and Angela Britt.
