LSU-Eunice rolls over Wolfpack

EUNICE, La. — It was a cold, rainy day in the Louisiana BayouCountry, but the LSU-Eunice Bengals were red hot at the plate andon the mound. They dominated the Co-Lin Wolfpack, roaring to 11-1and 12-2 triumphs.
“LSU-Eunice pitched better and swung the bats better than wedid,” said Co-Lin head coach Keith Case.
LSU-Eunice stands at 8-2 on the season. Co-Lin is 2-2. TheBengals are ranked No. 10 in the NJCAA Division II nationalpoll.
“LSU-Eunice was averaging right at 20 runs a game,” said Case.”You have to really pitch well and defend the field well when youplay them.”

Winning pitcher Nate Duhe gave up 5 hits and 1 run, walked noneand fanned 8 in the 5-inning game. Duhe was Class 5A Player of theYear in Louisiana in 2004.
Losing pitcher Ryan Hoben started on the mound for Co-Lin andwas replaced by Brett Hartfield in the third. Hartfield gave up afourth-inning, 3-run homer to Brian Jager.
The Wolfpack got doubles from Josh Logan and Joel Hurt. XavierQualls had 2 hits.

First baseman Leonard Porche homered twice and collected 5 RBIfor the Bengals in the chilly nightcap.
The Wolfpack struggled at the plate and struck out 11 times.Winning pitcher Brett Durand (3-0) gave up 5 hits and 1 run, fanned8 and walked 2.
Derek Thompson started on the mound for Co-Lin and went 3innings. He gave up 7 hits and 7 runs, walked 2 and struck outnone.
Matt Buckels relieved Thompson. In 2 innings, he gave 7 hits, 5runs, walked 1 and fanned none. Matthew Tubbs fanned 3 batters inthe 7th.
Shortstop Josh Logan and second baseman Dane Orders both had 2hits for the Wolves. Qualls and Garret Jones singled.
Co-Lin resumes play Wednesday at Hinds Community College inRaymond. Game time is 4 p.m. in the Cellular South BackyardBrawl.
