Wolves win pair from Mississippi Delta

WESSON — The Co-Lin Wolves swept a baseball doubleheader fromthe Mississippi Delta Trojans Sunday afternoon at SullivanField.

Co-Lin (5-2) won the opener 12-2 and rallied to win the finale9-7.

The Wolves entertain Tougaloo today for a doubleheader today.The firs game starts at 4 p.m.

Wednesday, Co-Lin hosts Hinds for the final game of the CellularSouth Backyard Brawl Series. The first game of the doubleheaderbegins at 4.

Co-Lin 12, Miss. Delta 2

A grand slam home run in the first inning by sophomoreoutfielder Ryan Williams helped put the Wolves up 5-0 in theopener. Co-Lin added seven more runs to secure the lopsidedwin.

“We swung the bats really well,” said Co-Lin head baseball coachKeith Case of the win. “Derek pitched very well. Mississippi Deltais a good offensive team.”

Going the distance for the win was sophomore right hander DerekThompson (1-1) with 5 strikeouts, 3 walks, 2 hits and 2 runsallowed. Matthew Prince (0-1) absorbed the loss, working the firstthree innings with 9 runs allowed on 8 hits, no strikeouts and 1walk.

Also homering for the Wolves was Todd Siders. Collecting 2singles apiece were Josh Logan and Joel Hurt. Singling were XavierQualls, Matthew Schexnayder, Cole Hodges, Dane Orders andWilliams.

Co-Lin 9, Miss. Delta 7

The Wolves led the second game 6-4 until the Trojans came backwith 4 runs in the top of the fourth to take a 7-6 lead. Co-Linanswered back with 3 runs in the bottom of the fifth for the 9-7lead and win.

“Defensively, we had a breakdown in the middle of the innings,”stated Case. “Other that that, we played pretty well. Our guys inthe fifth made a run, scoring 3 runs to push us back in the lead by2 (runs).”

Ryan Hoben (1-1) go the win working the final inning. KyleFairley started for 3 2/2 innings with 6 runs allowed on 7 hits, 4strikeouts and 2 walks. Matthew Tubbs worked the 4th through the8th with 2 hits allowed and 2 strikeouts.

Jeff Sides (1-1) took the loss.

Qualls tripled and singled for the Wolves. Drilling a double anda single each were Garrett Jones, Siders and Orders. Hurt singledtwice. Williams and Logan singled.
