Services for Evelyn “Elboo” Barnes are 10:30 a.m. Friday, March3 at Bethel A.M.E. Church in Brookhaven with burial in CarverHeights Cemetery. Williams Mortuary is in charge ofarrangements.

Visitation is Friday from 9 to 10:30 a.m. at the church.

Mrs. Barnes, 95, died February 24, 2006 at Haven Hall NursingCenter. She was born on April 12, 1910, to Sam Lee Barton Sr. andMartina F. Barton.

She attended Gulledge School in Brookhaven and graduatedMcDonough High School #135 in New Orleans. She attended nursingschool at Charity Hospital in New Orleans. She was retired. She wasa member of Union Bethel A.M.E. Church in New Orleans, where sheserved on the Foreign Aid Board, the Pastor’s Aid Board and in manyother capacities.

She was a charter member and Past Matron of Alpha Chapter #1Order of the Eastern Star (O.E.S.), a charter member and Past GrandMatron of Electa Grand Chapter O.E.S. of the A.R. for the state ofLouisiana; a member of the Supreme Grand Chapter O.E.S. SouthPalace; Past Supreme Grand Matron and Past Supreme GrandTreasurer.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, HardyBarnes; her brothers, Ameal Barton, Lionel Barton, Ernest Barton,Sam Barton Jr., and Bartran Barton; and her sister, MaryDickey.

Survivors are her daughter, Audette Patterson, of New Orleans;her grandson, Vincence Dillon, of Pensacola, Fla.; her niece, RitaLewis, of Brookhaven; and many other nieces, nephews andrelatives.
