Hornets sack Franklin Co.

BUDE — The Loyd Star Hornets handed the host Franklin CountyBulldogs a 14-3 whipping Saturday afternoon in five innings ofvarsity baseball action. The Hornets improved to 7-3 on theseason.
The game was called after five innings due to the 10-runrule.
Tyler Williford (2-0) was the winning pitcher, going 3 inningswith 6 strikeouts and 1 walk. Also working for an inning apiecewere Kyle James and Jarrod Rogers.
Dane Hodges, who started and went three innings, took the loss.Wayne Abernathy and Ben McDonald also worked an inning apiece.
Loyd Star, coached by Jonathan Breakfield, led 3-0 in the top ofthe first, 9-0 in the second and 14-0 in the third. Franklin Countyscored 3 runs in the bottom of the fourth to cut the deficit to14-3.
“We batted really well today,” said Breakfield. “Our defenseplayed really good.”
Brent Fielder directed the Hornet bats with a pair of doubles.Michael Britt doubled and singled. Collecting 2 singles each werePatrick Holcomb, Rogers and Williford.
Leading Franklin County with a double was John Paul Sullivan.Ryan Tutor singled.
