Mississippi Highway Safety Patrol troopers and the MississippiBureau of Investigation are looking into an apparent fatal hit andrun accident on Highway 550 early this morning, officials said.

Master Sgt. Gary Crawford said troopers were notified around 2a.m. that a body had been found in the road on Highway 550approximately two miles east of Highway 28 in Jefferson County.

Law enforcement officials are releasing little information onthe man, citing efforts to notify next of kin and an ongoinginvestigation by MBI.

“We hope to know more later today,” Crawford said. “It is beingconsidered as a hit and run.”

Agents with MBI are investigating to eliminate the possibilityof foul play, Crawford said.
