Services for Henry Lee Newman Jr., of Brookhaven, are 11 a.m.Thursday, March 30, at New Sight Baptist Church in Brookhaven withburial in the church cemetery. Brookhaven Funeral Home is in chargeof arrangements.
Visitation is today from 5 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home, and onThursday from 10 a.m., until the time of the service at thechurch.
Mr. Newman, 79, died March 27, 2006, at St. Dominic – JacksonMemorial Hospital. He was born in Brookhaven on Oct. 23, 1926, toHenry Newman Sr. and Lula Mae Barnes Newman.
He was a 1944 graduate of New Sight School. He co-foundedLincoln Ready Mix Concrete in the early 1960s. As sole owner, hesold the business in 1979. He spent many years as a beef cattlefarmer. He loved his animals and enjoyed traveling in the motorhomewhen his health was better.
He was a longtime member of New Sight Baptist Church, where hetaught the Adult Men’s Sunday School Class for many years, andserved in other capacities.
Preceding him in death were his parents; and his brother, JamesF. Newman.
A devoted husband and father, he was married to his high schoolsweetheart, Agnes Newman, of Brookhaven, for over 60 years.
Survivors are his wife; his daughters, Shirley Knapp, ofBrookhaven, and Kathy Edge and husband, Steve, of Brookhaven; hisbrother, Paul Newman, and wife, Ruth, of Pearl; his sisters, HelenPhillips, of Hattiesburg, Edith Diamond, of Wesson; hissister-in-law, Olivia Newman, of Wesson; his grandchild, AngelaPeden, of Brandon; and his great-grandchild, Brian Goode, ofBrandon.
Pall bearers are Joe Butler, Joe Daughdrill, Phil Magee, MikeSmith, Homer Brewer and Stan King.
Memorials may be made to Brookhaven Animal Rescue League or St.Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis.
