Lady ‘Cats maul Cobras

WESSON — Senior pitcher Meleah Brown hurled a 2-hitter Thursdaynight and directed the Bogue Chitto Lady Bobcats to a 14-0 win overthe Wesson Lady Cobras in fastpitch softball play. Brown (7-6)struck out 7 batters and had no walks.

Wesson hosts Loyd Star and Bogue Chitto entertains EnterpriseMonday night. The junior varsity games begin at 5 p.m. followed bythe varsity at 6.

“Meleah threw well,” said Bogue Chitto head coach Scott Leggettafter the win. “She’s throwing the ball well.”

Bogue Chitto (7-7) and Wesson (3-9) went scoreless the firstinning.

In the top of the second inning, the Lady ‘Cats produced theirfirst run of the game for a 1-0 lead.

Bogue Chitto turned up the tempo in the top of the fourth withfour runs for a 5-0 lead.

The Lady ‘Cats picked up three more in the fifth and six in thesixth for the 14-0 lead and eventual win.

Bogue Chitto outhit Wesson 13-2 at the plate.

“Bogue Chitto just has a great team,” said Wesson coach RickyGunter. “We just fell apart.”

Collecting a hit apiece for the Lady Cobras were Bethany Dykesand Christina Fink.

Candace Avants led the Lady ‘Cats with three singles. ShaquilleBurton tripled and doubled. Doubling and singling was Brown.Chelsey Miller and Jessie Miller drilled two singles apiece.Hitting safely were Devon Welch, Dori Hall and Latoya Braxton.

“We didn’t get started the way I’d like,” added Leggett. “Wefinished strong. I’m still not satisfied with the way we’replaying.”

Junior varsity results

The Lady ‘Cats won 9-3 over the Lady Cobras. Hannah Holmesposted the win and Jessica Haynes absorbed the loss.
