Lady ‘Cats clip W. Lincoln

It took eight innings but the Bogue Chitto girls finally did it.The visiting Lady ‘Cats got two key hits on their way to a close2-0 Division 7-1A fastpitch softball win over the West Lincoln LadyBears Tuesday night.

Bogue Chitto’s LaToya Braxton singled to score Kelli Howard andJessie Miller singled to drive in Braxton for the 2-0 lead andeventual win.

“It was a very huge game,” said Bogue Chitto coach ScottLeggett. “West Lincoln outhit us, but we managed to get the keybunts. I’m proud of my girls. We will host Greenville St. JoeSaturday.”

It will be a best-of-three series Saturday.

The ‘Cats improved to 14-7 overall and 7-1 in the division,claiming the division title. West Lincoln fell to 12-6 on theseason and is 6-2 in the division, settling for runner-up.

“That blown call in the second inning with runners advancinghurt us,” said West Lincoln coach Andrew Redd. “Four other times wehad runners on third but could not manage to get them in. BogueChitto got the hits when they needed to.”

One one occasion, Hannah Knouse slid home safely but the homeplate umpire sent her back to third base. He said Knouse slid withher knees instead of her feet.

Meleah Brown was the winning pitcher with 7 strikeouts and 1walk. Heather Huff fanned 8 batters and walked none in theloss.

Leading the Bears with three singles was Huff. Kacey Smithsingled twice. Doubling was Knouse. Shelby Lofton hit safely.

Candace Avants singled twice for Bogue Chitto. Jessie Miller hitsafely.

West Lincoln travels to East Webster Saturday at Maden for theopening round of the state playoffs.

Junior varsity action

West Lincoln hammered Bogue Chitto for a 12-2 win in JV action.Kacey Smith was the winning pitcher with 6 strikeouts and 6 walks.Hannah Holmes absorbed the loss with 3 strikeouts and 6 walks.

Katie Mullins hit a grand slam home run and a single for WestLincoln. Knouse singled twice. Stephanie Smith, Kelsey Smith andAlaina Cupit hit safely.

Bradi Davis singled for Bogue Chitto.
