Services for Lynell Brown Dow, of East Chicago, Ind., are 11a.m. Saturday, April 15, at Mt. Olive M.B. Church in Brookhavenwith burial in the church cemetery. Tyler Funeral Home is in chargeof arrangements.
Ms. Dow, 80, died April 8, 2006, at her residence. She was bornon April 25, 1925, to George Linton Brown and Beulah Harris BrownJohnson.
She was a retired educator. She began her teaching career atRoosevelt High School in Gary, Ind., and later was employed withthe City School of East Chicago, Ind., where she was employed for41 years, retiring in 1992. She was a 1945 graduate of WashingtonHigh School in East Chicago. She was a 1951 graduate of IndianaUniversity, and in 1956, she also earned her Master’s degree fromthere.
She was a member of the Lake County Retired TeachersAssociation. She held memberships in the National Council ofTeachers of English, the American Federation of Teachers and DeltaSigma Theta Sorority. She held lifetime memberships in the IndianaUniversity Alumni Association and the NAACP.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her sister, GraceBrown; and her ex-husband, John Dow Sr.
Survivors are her son, Dr. John Dow Jr., and herdaughter-in-law, Gloria Russell Dow, of Orlando, Fla.; hergrandsons, John Anthony Dow and Jaime Lee Dow, both of Studio City,Calif.; her granddaughter, Kelli Lynell Dow, of Rancho SantaMargarita, Calif.; and her sister, Lucy Mae Wells, of Gary.
