No foul play in man’s death

Authorities say foul play is not suspected in the death of aBrookhaven man whose body was found in a shallow area along a citystreet Thursday morning.
Following an investigation, Police Chief Pap Henderson said itappears John Richard Godbold, of 510 Bay Street, died of anapparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. However, evidence has beensent to the state Crime Lab to confirm that conclusion.
“We’d like for the Crime Lab to tell that,” Henderson said.
Henderson said a passerby reported seeing a body along PineDrive around 6:30 a.m. Thursday. Police found Godbold’s body in ashallow ditch a short distance from the street, which is one blocknorth of Bay Street near the southern city limits.
Funeral arrangements, under the direction of Riverwood FamilyFuneral Service, are incomplete.
