Police seek suspect in shooting

Police are searching for a suspect in the late Saturday nightshooting of a Brookhaven teenager on Highland Drive.
Chasity Watson, 18, of 433 Center St., was hit once in the “backarea” by a small caliber handgun during a drive-by shooting justafter 11 p.m. Saturday, said Brookhaven Police Chief PapHenderson.
Watson remained in the Intensive Care Unit at King’s DaughtersMedical Center this morning.
She was one of four adults and an infant on the porch at afriend’s residence at 110 W. Highland Dr. when the shootingoccurred, Henderson said. Allegedly, the suspect passed by theresidence once, then returned a few minutes later to fire severalshots in the direction of the porch.
“I feel that she was the target based on the investigation sofar,” Henderson said. “Apparently, there had been an altercationwith the suspect earlier.”
The suspect was identified by Watson and several witnesses,Henderson said. He did not release the suspect’s name.
The earlier altercation between the victim and suspect alsoappears to have occurred at the scene of the shooting, he said.
