Services for Marvin F. Powell Sr., of McComb, are 11 a.m.Saturday, July 8, at Hartman Funeral Home in McComb with burial inHollywood Cemetery. The Revs. Rick Kennedy and Kenny Roy Colemanwill officiate.

Visitation is today from 5 until 9 p.m. at the funeral home, andon Saturday from 9 until 11 a.m.

Mr. Powell, 72, died July 6, 2006, at McComb Extended Care,after a lengthy illness. He was born in McComb on Feb. 9, 1934, toJames “Freddie” Powell and Edis Hardy Powell.

He was retired from his job of 35 years as a partsman with DayMotors and Peterbilt. He was a city bus driver, city taxi driverand made the “Best Hamburgers in Town” at Taste and Sips. He was amember of New Heights Baptist Church.

Preceding him in death were his parents and his son-in-law,Ronnie Nickles.

Survivors are his companion of 18 years, Joyce Sandifer, ofMcComb; his sons, Marvin F. “Brother” Powell Jr., of Prairieville,La., Thomas L. Powell and his wife Jennifer, of Wesson; hisdaughters, Susan Powell-Nickles, of McComb, and CarolynPowell-Distler and her husband Dale, of Branson, Mo.; his brothers,James Thomas “Tommy” Powell, of Ocean Springs, and Jerry LeonPowell, of Pearl; his 13 grandchildren and twogreat-grandchildren.

Pallbearers are Ryan C. Nickles, Kenny Powell, B.J. McKenzie,Jonathan Powell, Richard Barr, Thomas Powell Jr., James Powell Jr.and James Earl White.
