K.L. ‘Buster’ Simmons

Services for K.L. “Buster” Simmons, of Magnolia, are 3 p.m.today, July 23, at East Union Baptist Church with burial in thechurch cemetery. Jones Family Funeral Services is in charge ofarrangements.
Visitation is today from 1 until 3 p.m. at the church.
Mr. Simmons, 72, died July 21, 2006 at his home after a lengthyillness. He was born in Pike County on Jan. 14, 1934, to Edgar Leeand Lucy Mote Simmons.
He graduated from Progress High School and Southwest MississippiCommunity College. He received a Bachelor of Science degree inindustrial education from the University of Southern Mississippi.He was retired from Southwest Mississippi Community College after40 years of service as an auto mechanics/welding teacher for twoyears and Vocational Director for 38 years. He was a member of EastUnion Baptist Church and a U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean War. Mr.Simmons was a Harley-Davidson Motorcycle enthusiast who owned andoperated a motorcycle for over 50 years. He loved old motors, heavyequipment and working with his hands. Many family members andfriends will remember the delicious bar-b-cue meats they enjoyedcooked in the smoker that he built.
Preceding him in death were his parents; his sister, KatherineSimmons Miller; and his nephew, Gary Vanden Miller.
Survivors are his son, Steve Simmons, of Magnolia; his daughter,Kemi Simmons, of Hattiesburg; his brother, Rev. Billy Simmons, ofProgress, his special friend, Marion Stroud, of Tylertown; andnumerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Ted Thomas, Brent Boyd, Joe Juneau, GlennSmith, Amos Parker and Arthur Beasley. Honorary pallbearers will beBritt Simmons, Mike McKenzie and Danny Craig. Rev. Billy Simmonswill be officiating.
