Football teams begin preseason practice

High school football teams across the state begin preseasonpractice this week in preparation for the start of the 2006football season.
Brookhaven
Coach Tucker Peavey’s Panthers begin preseason practice onTuesday, at 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. Players will meet at the field houseMonday. They will practice twice Wednesday. Peavey expects about 54varsity players.
Brookhaven kicks off the season on King Field Friday, Aug. 25.The Panthers host Franklin County.
Brookhaven Academy
New head coach Bo Milton will begin two-a-day practices with hisCougars, beginning at 7 a.m. -9 and 10 a.m.-12 noon on Tuesday,Aug. 1. Milton expects 30-35 players to turn out. The Cougarsreport Monday at 7 a.m. to get equipment.
Brookhaven Academy kicks off its season against SillimanInstitute on Friday, Aug. 25.
Enterprise
Coach Roe Burns announced that his Yellows Jackets beginpractice at 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. Monday. Burns expects around 30-35players. They will work out at the same times the remainder of theweek before returning to school on Monday, August 7.
The Jackets play their first game at home on Friday, August 25,hosting the Wesson Cobras.
Loyd Star
Coach Josh Thibodeaux and his Loyd Star Hornets begin practiceearly Monday morning, July 31, at 7 a.m. Thibodeaux expects 45players to turn out. Loyd Star officially begins its school year onMonday, August 7.
Loyd Star opens its season with a Thursday night special againstWest Lincoln.
Bogue Chitto
Coach Garreth Sartin said his Bobcats begin practice on Mondayat 4 p.m. Sartin anticipates around 32 athletes to participate.Bogue Chitto begins school on Monday, August 7.
Bogue Chitto hosts North Pike on Friday, Aug. 25, for its seasonopener.
West Lincoln
Coach Brooks Burns will kick off his first day of practice witha 5 p.m. meeting followed by practice from 6 p.m.-9 this week.Burns is looking for 30-35 players this week.
West Lincoln hosts Loyd Star for a Thursday night special onAugust 24, beginning at 7 p.m.
Wesson
Coach Tommy Clopton said his Cobras begin preseason practice onMonday. They will practice at 3 p.m. the first day. Clopton expectsaround 45 varsity players.
The Cobras play their first game at Enterprise on Friday, Aug.25.
Lawrence County
Coach Mike Davis said his Cougars would kick off practice at 7a.m. Monday. They will practice once a day. Davis said he expectsaround 50 varsity players.
School starts Thursday and practices will move to 2 p.m.
The Cougars will participate in a jamboree at Petal on Friday,Aug. 18.
The first regular season game is Aug. 25, hosting WestJones.
Franklin County
Coach Grady McCluskey and the Franklin County Bulldogs begintheir practice Monday at 8 a.m. McCluskey expects around 50 playersto come out.
Franklin County hosts its jamboree on Friday, August 18.
Franklin County kicks off its season Friday, August 25, atBrookhaven.
Copiah Academy
Coach Mitch Mitchell says his Gallman-based Colonels meet forfirst day of practice Tuesday. Practices will be held at 7 a.m. and4 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday. Practices will be held Wednesday andFriday at 3 p.m.
MItchell says he expects 30 players to participate.
Copiah hosts Simpson County on Friday, August 25.
North Pike
Coach Adam Barron says his Jaguars begin practices at 7:30 a.m.Monday. They will practice Mon-Wed. at 7:30. The schedule changesThursday to the afternoon at 3 p.m.
Barron anticipates 65 players coming out.
North Pike will participate in the Franklin County Jamboree onFriday, August 18, before the official football season begins onFriday, August 25, against Bogue Chitto.
