Services for William H. Jones, of Summit, are 2 p.m. Friday,Aug. 11, at Moaks Creek Baptist Church with burial in the churchcemetery. The Rev. Mike Alexander will officiate. Jones FamilyFuneral Services in McComb is in charge of arrangements.
Visitation is Thursday from 7 until 10 p.m. at the funeral home,and on Friday from 9 until 11 a.m., at the funeral home, and fromnoon until 2 p.m. at the church.
Mr. Jones, 75, died Aug. 8, 2006, at his residence. He was bornin Summit on Jan. 9, 1931, to William “Bill” and Mada JacksonJones.
He was a Bronze Star recipient, having served in Korea fromOctober 1952 until August 1953. In his citation it states, “Oftencalled upon to work under direct enemy observation and fire,Sergeant Jones consistently displayed a calm, determined courage inaccomplishing his mission. His loyalty, initiative, and devotion toduty earned him the respect and admiration of all those with whomhe served. The meritorious service rendered by Sergeant Jonesthroughout this period reflects great credit on him and themilitary service.”
After finishing his apprenticeship as a machinist he worked forThomas W. Hooley & Sons Inc., for several years before openingJ&B Machine Shop in Kenner, La., and was there until hisretirement in 1994.
Preceding him in death were his parents and his daughter,Bridget.
Survivors are his wife, Oneida Woodall Jones; his son, WilliamH. “Bill” Jones and Shirley Hymel Jones, of Destrehan, La.; hisgrandchildren, Kristie Lynn Jones, Dustin Howard Jones and BeauMatthew Jones.
Pallbearers are Dustin H. Jones, Beau M. Jones, Steve Barksdale,Jim Barksdale, John Paul Weingand and Harold Jones.
Honorary pallbearers are Delton Moak, Clyde Dillon, Ronald DaleJones, Robert Hebert and J.D. Hall.
