Lady ‘Cats wallop W. Lincoln

BOGUE CHITTO — Exploding for 17 hits, the Bogue Chitto Lady’Cats took batting practice and whipped West Lincoln’s Lady Bears11-1 Monday in slowpitch softball action. Coach Scott Leggett’sLady ‘Cats also clinched the Division 7-1A championship in theprocess.
“I am proud of my girls,” said Coach Leggett. “They did a goodjob hitting. We hit the ball well to the right side. It was greatfor our seniors to win district on Senior Night.”
During pregame ceremonies, BC honored its six seniors. They areleftfielder Chelsey Miller, left-centerfielder Candace Avants,second baseman Devon Welch, first baseman Dori Hall, pitcher LaToyaBraxton and pinch hitter/runner Kimberlee Thomas.
Braxton walked 3 batters and fanned none as the ‘Cats hikedtheir record to 18-2 overall and 8-0 in the division. West Lincoln(11-8, 6-2) committed 4 errors but remained in contention for therunner-up spot and a berth in the playoffs.
“You can’t win if you give up that many hits and make that manyerrors,” said West Lincoln coach Andrew Redd. “We stunk it up andBogue Chitto hit the ball well.”
Miller slugged a home run and a single as the ‘Cats took an 9-1,fourth-inning lead. They plated 6 runs in the fourth.
Rightfielder Caitlin Owen tripled and singled. Two hits wereprovided by Avants, Braxton, Welch, Shaquille Burton and JessieMiller. Also hitting safely were Hall, Kelli Howard and DarcyMiller.
Stephanie Smith was the losing pitcher.
Third baseman Holli Smith led the Bears with 2 hits. Megan Neal,Kelsey Bass, Alexis Cook, Keri Easley and Kacey Smith singled.
Junior Varsity Results
Bogue Chitto beat West Lincoln 11-5 in the junior varsity game.Toy Smith (2 Ks, 2 BBs) was the inning pitcher. Jessica Franklin (2Ks, 4 BBs) absorbed the loss.
The ‘Cats were led by Smith, Thomas, Darcy Miller and JosiePorter with 2 hits apiece. Bradi Davis, Holly Miller and MikkiMItchell singled.
Two hits by Kelsey Smith and Kayla Beth Rushing led the Bears.Taylor Crews tripled. Karli Herrington, Alana Cupit, Julie Case,and Katie Mullins singled.
Bogue Chitto makes up a division game at Natchez Cathedral andWest Lincoln hosts Enterprise in Thursday action.
