Services for Joseph Woodard, of Bude, are 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct.7, at Mt. Olive M.B. Church in Kirby with burial in MeadvilleCemetery. R.E. Tyler Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Visitation is Saturday at noon at the church.

Mr. Woodard, 82, died Oct. 2, 2006, at Promise SpecialtyHospital in Ferriday, La. He was born on May 1, 1924, to WadeWoodard and Lizzie Winston Woodard.

He was a graduate of Alexander High School in Brookhaven, and ofAlcorn State University in Lorman. He was a retired educator andtaught at Mt. Olive High School in Kirby, and Franklin County HighSchool in Meadville. He served on the Bude Board of Aldermen foreight years. He was former vice president of the NAACP in FranklinCounty. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, and receivedthe Victory Medal. He earned the rank of private first class. Hewas a member of Triumph Church of God in Christ in Bude.

Preceding him in death were his parents and his brother, MonroeWoodard.

Survivors are his wife, Mae Dell Harris Woodard, of Bude; hissons, Rickey L. Woodard, of Bude, and Ronnie D. Woodard, U.S. AirForce, Anchorage, Alaska, and Alvin A. Woodard, of Anchorage; hisdaughters, Patricia Watkins, of Anchorage, Pamela D. Davis, ofMeadville, and Brenda E. Carradine, of Kirby; and his 17grandchildren.
