Autopsy report yields cause of man’s death

Autopsy results released this morning show a Brookhaven manslain Oct. 10 at his residence was beaten to death, authoritiessaid.
Lincoln County Coroner Clay McMorris said the report indicatesJewel Duane Douglas, 36, of 1831 Douglas Trail, was killed by bluntforce trauma to the back of the head.
Lincoln County Sheriff Steve Rushing said investigators arestill trying to determine the murder weapon.
“We’re still waiting on some lab and test results to come back,”he said.
Three family members found a wounded Douglas at his residencearound 9 p.m. Wednesday after notifying the sheriff’s department ofa disturbance there, Rushing said.
“He was found by family members and transported by them to thehospital,” Rushing said.
Douglas was rushed from King’s Daughters Medical Center toBaptist Medical Center in Jackson, where he died around 1 p.m. thenext day from injuries sustained in the assault, the sheriffsaid.
Robert M. Culbertson, Jr., 31, of 359 Highway 583, and MichaelD. Leggett, 30, of 1831 Douglas Trail, have been charged withmurder in the incident, Rushing said. Bond for both men has beenset at $500,000.
Information received at the scene of the crime led deputies toCulbertson’s home, where he and Leggett were arrested approximatelya half hour after the incident was reported, Rushing said.
