Franklin Co. girls capture soccer title

MEADVILLE — Led by six goals from senior standout CarolineYarbrough, the Franklin County Lady Bulldogs opened the soccerseason in a big way, by winning the Crystal Springs Girls SoccerTournament over the weekend.

The Lady Bulldogs (3-0) beat Crystal Springs, Wesson, and NorthPike en route to repeating as tournament champs.

Yarbrough was named MVP.

“It was a total team from us,” said Franklin County head soccercoach Ben Yarbrough. “The girls played hard in each game and didreally well. I’m very optimistic about our team this season.”

Yarbrough watched his daughter Caroline tear apart the defensesof North Pike and Wesson, as well as tournament host CrystalSprings.

The Lady Bulldogs beat Wesson in the tournament opener 3-1 offtwo strong-footed goals from Yarbrough. Seventh grade sensationKarlee Mullins added a goal as well.

Yarbrough would add two more goals against Crystal Springs andNorth Pike respectfully.

Franklin beat Crystal Springs 2-0 and North Pike 2-1.

Bulldog junior Kate Brasher had two assists in the tournament,while Jennifer Thornton and Heather Havard doubled in goalierelief.

“We played great,” said Yarbrough. “We beat three good teams.The North Pike game was very physical, but we got it done in theend.”

Franklin County will travel to Brookhaven tonight at 6 p.m. fora girls contest, followed by the boys opener at 7:30.
