The Loyd Star Hornets swept two games from the host West LincolnBears Saturday afternoon in varsity basketball action.

The Loyd Star boys knocked off West Lincoln 61-52 and the LadyHornets downed the Lady Bears 52-35.

West Lincoln visits Franklin County Tuesday. Loyd Star invadesVicksburg to meet St. Aloysius.

Loyd Star 61, West Lincoln 52

Matthew Henderson fired in 21 points for the Loyd Star boys(3-0). Netting 15 points was Ron Jones.

“Loyd Star hurt us inside all night and we didn’t do muchoffensively,” said West Lincoln coach Lane Young. “I thought weplayed really hard and well in the second half.”

For West Lincoln (0-3), Aaron Shaw scored 23 points followed byJamey Byrd with 14 points and Bradleigh Rice with 11.

Loyd Star 52, West Lincoln 35

In the girls game, Shannon Chester pumped in 21 points, 4rebounds, 5 steals and 2 assist. to lead the Lady Hornets (3-0).Collecting 12 points and 5 rebounds was Haley Sones. Tops off thebackboards was Dakota Brooks with 12 rebounds. Brittany Beesonpulled down 5 rebounds and made 2 steals.

“We got outplayed in all phases of the game,” said Young. “Wedidn’t play smart and didn’t handled the pressure very well. LoydStar played extremely hard and missed a lot of free throws thatkept us in the game.”

Julie Case’s 11 points sparked the Lady Bears (1-2). Kacey Smithhad 10 points.

Junior high action

The West Lincoln boys nipped Loyd Star 43-42 in junior high boysaction. Javier Gee led the Bears with 10 points.

Pacing the Hornets with 24 points was Zach Smith.

The Lady Bears clipped the Lady Hornets 17-16 in girls play.

Karli Herrington paced West Lincoln with 8 points. Karley Newelldirected Loyd Star with 7 points.
