Ole Brook loses twice in Classic

Brookhaven’s basketball teams dropped a pair of varsity gamesSaturday night in the Ole Brook Classic in Sinclair Gym. The LadyPanthers fell 66-59 in overtime to the Callaway Lady Chargers,while the Panthers dropped a 71-58 decision to the MortonPanthers.

Brookhaven begins play in the Brookhaven Invitational TournamentMonday at 7 p.m. against Wilkinson County. The preliminary gamesfeature McComb and Tylertown, tip off at 4.

The Lady Chargers (3-0) outscored Ole Brook 14-7 in the extrasession. Poor free throw shooting by the Lady Panthers aidedCallaway’s cause. Kiana James led the blue-and-orange charge with26 points, 21 rebounds and 3 steals. Jessica Collins added 16,while Bianca Heard tossed in 11 points for head coach MaxineJohnson.

Ole Brook (2-1), coached by Freda Craft, shot a dismal 36percent from the charity stripe on 12-of-33 shooting. The LadyPanthers shot nearly 60 percent from the field in the first half,but fell to 34 percent for the game.

Senior guard Jermecia Jones led the way with 15 points and 4assists. Kayla Harris and Swayze Black each had 12 points. Blackhad 12 rebounds, while Katie Mackabee grabbed 10 boards.

Morton 71, Brookhaven 58

Morton (2-1) was a last-minute fill-in for Jackson Bailey, whichhad to pull out of the tournament; for having too many games on theschedule. The Morton Panthers got a game-high 21 points from MatiasEvans. Kent Reese and Shun Mays tossed in 14 points apiece for headcoach Terry Fletcher.

Ole Brook (2-1) held a 46-40 lead entering the fourth quarter.Poor shot selection and turnovers (28) were too much to overcome intheir first loss of the season.

Brookhaven got a team-high 13 points from Donaldmetric Blue.Senior Terrance Perkins followed with 12 points for Coach RonaldHines.

Provine 58, Crystal Springs 53

The Lady Rams (1-1) got a game-high 20 points from BrittneyJohnson. Kianna Harris followed with 11 and Saraetha Brown added 10points for head coach Harriett Speech.

The Lady Tigers (2-1) were led by Latashia Nichols with 19points and Shakina Green with 16.

Provine 63, Crystal Springs 39

The Rams (1-1) got 20 points from Dandy Dozen junior forwardScottie Harrison. Ermery Kelly added 12 points for head coachLuther Riley.

Demarcus Sanders and Damain May each scored 10 points for theTigers (0-3).

Brookhaven 46, Crystal Springs 42 (JV)

Brookhaven was led by Desmond Arnold with a game-high 18 points.Marcus Magee tallied 14 points.

Jameal Tobias had 11 points for Crystal Springs.
