Lady Cobras tune up for state soccer playoffs;

Trystan Eschete, scored four times, including a direct cornerkick, leading Wesson to a 5-0 Friday night win over the Loyd StarLady Hornets. Christina Fink scored the other goal for Wesson asthe Lady Cobras tuned up for the Class 1A-2A-3A state playoffs atthe Hansel King Sportsplex.

Goalkeeper Ceara Sturgis provided Wesson with the shutout.

“Our defense played so soundly, I think Ceara only had to makeone stop,” said Wesson girls coach Robert Alsbury. “Our fourdefenders, Dallas Jackson, Jessica Haynes, Amber Joyce and KaylaCase, did an outstanding job.”

Wesson hosts Sacred Heart of Hattiesburg Tuesday night at 5:30,at the Hansel King Sportsplex, in the opening round of the stateplayoffs.

“Sacred Heart is loaded,” said Alsbury. “They are young but mostof them play select ball.”

The Lady Cobras improved to 11-3 overall and 7-1 in the divisionrace. Franklin County’s girls finished second and visit GreeneCounty Tuesday.

Providing assists for Wesson were Brittany Cannon and StephanieBerry.

Loyd Star (2-16) got 3 shots on goal from senior forward MargieBrewer. Junior Haley Shed had 2 shots at the net. Senior goalieMelissa Delaney made 7 saves.

In the boys game, Loyd Star beat Wesson 5-2,led by senior Nick James who scored 3 goals. Freshmen Chris Buieand Cass Sellers scored 1 goal apiece. Sophomore keeper Drew Weaverhad 4 saves. Junior keeper Jeremy Fuller made 3 saves.

The Hornets (7-10-1) got assists from Landon Paschall and JohnFloyd.
