Porter’s 33 points pace Bogue Chitto over MC

BILOXI — Shasta Porter used her height and basketball skills todominate the Mercy Cross Lady Crusaders Friday night. The 6-foot-1senior scored a career-high 33 points and grabbed 10 rebounds inleading Bogue Chitto’s Lady ‘Cats to a 60-34 triumph.

In the varsity boys game, Bogue Chitto blitzed the Crusaders60-34, led by Mario Addison’s 20 points. Mercy Cross and GulfportSt. John, both 1A schools, will consolidate after the school yearto become St. Patrick, a Class 2A school.

The Lady ‘Cats (20-3, 10-0) got 10 reboundsfrom Porter and 8 from Kimberlee Thomas. Porter also had 5 steals.Chelsey Miller handed out 5 assists for the unbeaten Division 7-1Aleaders.

Porter scored 23 first-half points, leading the Lady ‘Cats to a31-15 advantage.

“Shasta had a height advantage and she made good use of it,”said Bogue Chitto coach Christi Terrell. It was a career-high totalfor Porter, a 6-foot-1 senior.

Mercy Cross got 15 points from Kathy Terrell.

The Bobcats (13-8, 6-4) were led on thebackboards by Keyouna Perkins with 7 rebounds and Addison with 5.Perkins also had 6 steals. Seth Avants had 5 steals.

“Mercy Cross played kind of a slow tempo and it got sloppy attimes,” said Bogue Chitto coach Andrew Smithie. “Mario is a greatathlete.”

Addison, a senior in eligibility, was named to the MississippiAssociation of Coaches 2006 Class 1A All-State Football Team as awide receiver.

Ten points by Michael Pitzer, Zachary Breeland and PatrickMiller paced MC.

Bogue Chitto resumes play Tuesday night, hosting the WestLincoln Bears for Division 7-1A action. The Bobcats are No. 3 inthe division and West Lincoln’s boys are No. 1, standing at 16-7overall and 11-0 in the division.
