Bears, Lady ‘Cats win big

BOGUE CHITTO — West Lincoln’s boys and Bogue Chitto’s girls,No. 1 seeds in next week’s Division 7-1A Tournament, took care ofbusiness Tuesday night in Calhoun Gymnasium. BC’s Lady ‘Catscrushed the West Lincoln girls 54-22 and the WL Bears blasted thehost Bobcats 70-41.
West Lincoln wraps up regular season play Friday night, hostingWesson. Bogue Chitto hosts Dexter for a division test. Tournamentplay begins Monday at Salem.
The Lady ‘Cats (21-3, 11-0) got 14 points fromguard Chelsey Miller and 13 from center Shasta Porter in thelopsided win over West Lincoln (11-13, 8-4).
On the backboards, Porter grabbed 12 rebounds. Kimberlee Thomasadded 10 rebounds as BC rolled to a 25-4 halftime lead.
“We came out and played hard,” said BC girls coach ChristiTerrell. “We put pressure on West Lincoln and got some layups offour press.”
The Lady Bears were minus starting guard Keri Easley whosuffered an ACL injury against Dexter. They got 5 points from KaceySmith, Tatianna Marshall, Katie Mullins and Ashley Montgomery.Smith had 4 rebounds and 2 steals.
“We had a couple of injuries that hurt us,” said WL coach LaneYoung. “We were outsized and Bogue Chitto has the best team.”
The Bears (17-7, 12-0) completed their divisionmenu unbeaten. Against BC, they were led by Jeremy Byrd’s 17 pointsand 10 rebounds. Aaron Collins chipped in 12 points, 7 rebounds and4 assists. Aaron Shaw added 10 points, 8 assists and 4 steals.
“We were pretty consistent all four quarters,” said Coach Young.”We have got to do a better job defending scorers.”
BC’s Keyouna Perkins poured in a game-high 29 points and grabbed10 rebounds for the shorthanded Bobcats (13-9, 6-5). Starters MarioAddison and Antwain Lyons missed the game due to disciplinaryaction.
Guard Seth Avants had 5 rebounds and 2 steals for the Bobcatswho trailed 36-21 at halftime.
“My kids gave a good effort,” said BC boys coach AndrewSmithie.
JV Action
In a preliminary junior varsity girls game, Bogue Chitto beatWest Lincoln 36-23, led by Shelby Tobias with 12 points. Thirteenpoints by Katie Mullins paced the Lady Bears.
Senior Night
Bogue Chitto’s seniors will be honored Friday night.
