Co-Lin sweeps Coahoma

WESSON — The Copiah-Lincoln Community College Wolfpack baseballteam kicked off the 2007 season Wednesday with a sweep of theCoahoma Tigers on chilly Sullivan Field. Despite cold, windyconditions, the Wolves put away the Tigers 9-4 in the opener and12-1 in the finale.
Co-Lin (2-0) travels to Baton Rouge Sunday for a doubleheader.The first game begins at 1 p.m.
“We persevered through the elements,” said Co-Lin coach KeithCase. “That was a real positive for us. Our kids did a goodjob.”

Brett Hartfield (1-0) posted the win in the opener afterrelieving starter Joseph Langham in the fourth inning.
Co-Lin and Coahoma were tied 2-all after three innings. TheWolves went on to score four runs in the fifth for a 6-2 lead. TheTigers added two in the top of the sixth, cutting the deficit to6-4. In the bottom of the sixth, Co-Lin added two more insuranceruns for the 9-4 lead and held on for the win.
At the plate, Timmy Foster powered the Wolves with a home run.Steven Gauthe doubled and singled. Doubling were Marty Ballard andDavis Alton New III. Singles were hit by Montez Chatman, TaeByusSmith and Cole Hodges.
“We had some good at-bats,” said Case. “That home run by TimmyFoster got us going and relaxed us.”

In the second game, Brandt Hinton (1-0) went the distance forthe win.
New contributed a bases-loaded double in Co-Lin’s 6-run, thirdinning.
“Brandt came out and pitched well,” said Case. “He set the tonein difficult weather conditions.”
At the plate, Paul Davis led the way with a double and a single.Also doubling were Ballard, Hodges and Edward Joe III. Smith andGauthe singled.
