Purvis C. “Boots” Garrett Jr., 77, died Thursday, March 1, 2007,at Hospice Ministries in Ridgeland. Services will be held at 2 p.m.Sunday at the Old Rice Road Baptist Church. Burial will be inNatchez Trace Memorial Park.
Mr. Garrett, a native of Crystal Springs, was a 29 year residentof Madison. He was past master of Circle Lodge 638 and a member ofthe I.B.E.W. for over 50 years. He had worked for over 38 years invarious capacities with Mississippi Power and Light. He was acharter member, deacon and overseer of the building of Old RiceRoad Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Purvis Clarence andAnnie Vera Sharp Garrett; a son, Purvis C. Garrett III; agrandchild, Melissa Ann Garrett; and three sisters, June Everets,Beth Pickering and Bobbie Drozda.
Survivors are his wife of 58 years, Katherine Slay Garrett, ofMadison; a son, Bruce Edward Garrett and wife, Jo Ann, ofBrookhaven; and two daughters, Glenda Bruce and husband, Thomas, ofCleveland; and Kathy Jones and husband, Mike, of Vicksburg; asister, Dot Scruggs, of Ridgeland; a brother, Mike Garrett, ofHouston, Texas; 10 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to Circle Lodge 638, Old Rice Road BaptistChurch or Hospice Ministries of Ridgeland.
