Charles Lamar ‘Pud’ Calhoun
Services for Charles Lamar “Pud” Calhoun, of Jayess, are 2 p.m.Friday, March 9, at Divide Methodist Protestant Church inMonticello with burial in the church cemetery. Wilson Funeral Homein Monticello is in charge of arrangements.
Visitation is Thursday from 5 until 9 p.m. at the funeralhome.
Mr. Calhoun, 76, died March 7, 2007, at his residence. He wasborn on March 8, 1930, to Burmah N. Calhoun and Lexie BoydCalhoun.
He was a retired oilfield driller with Marshall R. YoungDrilling Co. He was a member of Divide Methodist Protestant Church.He was the former owner of Jayess Softball Field for several years.He loved gardening and growing watermelons for his grandchildren.He loved his dogs and hunting.
Preceding him in death were his parents; and his sister, DonnisGivens and her husband Williard Givens.
Survivors are his wife, Jalove Calhoun, of Jayess; his son,Randy Calhoun and wife Kathy, of Jayess; his daughter, Rhonda JoMorrow and husband Devon, of Jayess; his grandchildren, DonnieHarvey, Lajo Smith, Kacie Smith, Shantel Prestridge; and hisgreat-grandchildren, Cole Harvey, Halle Harvey and CarterSmith.
Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s ResearchHospital.
Ruth Ellen Crawford East
Graveside services for Ruth Ellen Crawford East, of Brookhaven,are 4 p.m. Thursday, March 8, at Heuck’s Retreat Baptist ChurchCemetery. Brookhaven Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Visitation is Thursday from 2 until 3:30 p.m. at the funeralhome on North Jackson Street.
Mrs. East, 86, died March 6, 2007, at Haven Hall Health CareCenter. She was born in Lincoln County on Sept. 19, 1920, to JulianM. Crawford and Lillian Harrell Crawford.
She spent a number of years sitting with the sick and elderly.She was a member of Heuck’s Retreat Baptist Church.
Preceding her in death were her parents; and her husband, FloydC. East Jr., who died in 1969.
Survivors are her sisters, Frances Heaslip and Flora Robbins;and a number of nieces and nephews.
Annette Johnson
Services for Annette Johnson, of Amite, La., formerly ofBrookhaven, are 2 p.m. Saturday, March 10, at Macedonia M.B. Churchin Brookhaven, with burial in Carver Heights Cemetery inBrookhaven. Williams Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
Visitation is Friday from 1 until 6 p.m. at the funeralhome.
Miss Johnson, 49, died March 2, 2007, at her residence. She wasborn in Lincoln County on Jan. 21, 1958, to Brady Johnson and MaryAlice Johnson.
She was a nurse’s aide with TangiPines Nursing Home.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her sisters, EnfleaseRufus, Alberta Ferdinand and Almeda Johnson; and her nephew, Sgt.Romeo A. Barnes.
Survivors are her son, Alfred Johnson and wife Kizzy, ofIndependence, La.; her brothers, Brady Allen and wife Maxine, ofBrookhaven, John Johnson and wife Dorothy, of McComb, and Thomas K.Johnson, of Houston, Texas; her sister, Lou E. Bowman and husbandJames, of Brookhaven; her grandchildren, Amari, Kiara, and Cameron,of Independence; her uncle, James E. Edwards, of Baltimore, Md.;her devoted friend, George Downy, of Amite, and a host of nieces,nephews, other relatives and friends.
Mary Ruth Noble
Services for Mary Ruth Noble, of Fayette, are 11 a.m. Saturday,March 10, at Spencer Funeral Home in Fayette with burial in FayetteCemetery. Riverwood Family Funeral Service is in charge of localarrangements.
Mrs. Noble, 80, died March 6, 2007, at in Wesson. She was bornon Feb. 20, 1927, to Leon Estess Rhodes and Ruth Boykin Rhodes.
She was a member of Fayette Presbyterian Church.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her daughter, NancyNobles Flowers; and her sister, Martha Jane Rhodes Day.
Survivors are her husband, Maxwell Davis Noble Sr., of Fayette;her sons, Maxwell Davis Noble Jr. and wife Sharon, of Houston,Texas, and Felix “Ronnie” Noble and wife Martha, of McCall Creek;her daughter, Mary Davis Noble Byrd and husband Bruce, of Wesson;her brothers, Leon Buddy Rhodes and wife Barbara, James MaxwellRhodes and wife Mel, and Richard Levi Rhodes and wife B.J.; hersister, Patricia Ann Rhodes Peavey; her 11 grandchildren, 15great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Norman ‘Buddy’ Ratliff
Services for Norman “Buddy” Ratliff, of Brookhaven, are 11 a.m.on Friday, March 9, at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church inBrookhaven, with burial in the Catholic Cemetery. BrookhavenFuneral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Visitation is Thursday from 5 until 9 p.m. at the funeral homeon Jackson Street, with wake service at 7 p.m.
Mr. Ratliff, 82, died March 7, 2007, at his home, surrounded byhis family. He was born Jan. 4, 1925, in Brookhaven, to L.P.Ratliff Sr. and Marie Warren Ratliff.
He served his country during World War II in the U.S. Navyaboard the battleship USS Colorado. He was the owner of DavisSporting Goods and a master gunsmith. He served as a colonel in theMississippi State Guard and also served in the Army NationalGuard.
Ratliff retired as director of the Lincoln County Civil Defenseand volunteered his time to many civil and community services. Heled Boy Scout Troop No. 118 for a number of years. He was a memberof the Brookhaven Exchange Club, where he served as president andreceived the John L. Leary Memorial Award. He was also a member ofthe USS Colorado Alumni Association and had been serving as vicepresident. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, theAmerican Legion and Sons of the Confederate Veterans. He was alifelong member of the National Rifle Association and an NRAfirearms safety instructor. Ratliff was an avid hunter andfisherman. He loved Civil War and World War II history and wasinstrumental in the organization of the Military Memorial Museum ofBrookhaven. In 2006, he was honored as Brookhaven’s HometownHero.
He was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, wherehe was a Fourth Degree Knight with the Knights of Columbus.
Preceding him in death were his parents; his siblings, AnnieMarie Ratliff Allgood, L.P. Ratliff Jr., William Warren Ratliff andJan Ratliff Kessler.
Survivors are his wife of 59 years, Mary Elizabeth GetwanRatliff; his sons, Norman A. Ratliff Jr., of Jackson, and David E.Ratliff and wife Michele, of Brookhaven; his daughters, Margaret R.Smith and husband Danny, of Brookhaven, and Jane R. Smith andhusband Doug, of Brandon; his brothers, Charles R. Ratliff andJerry R. Ratliff, both of Brookhaven, and Marion L. Ratliff, ofWesson; his sister, May Dee Fields, of Arvada, Colo.; hisgrandchildren, Paige Jackson, of Brandon, Heather R. Sabatini, ofNew York, N.Y., Matt Jackson and wife Amy, and Davy Ratliff, ofBrookhaven; his great-grandchildren, Mary Parker Jackson andKathleen Jackson, of Brookhaven, and a host of nieces andnephews.
