Loyd Star Hornets sweep Lincoln Co.

BOGUE CHITTO — The Loyd Star Hornets dominated the LincolnCounty Baseball Tournament, winning three games Saturday on BogueChitto’s Stan Long Field. The Hornets defeated Enterprise 1-0,Bogue Chitto 15-6 and West Lincoln 9-2, all in 5 innings.
Loyd Star improved its record to 9-3 overall with the sweep. TheHornets visit Lawrence County Friday for a junior high and varsitygames, starting at 5 p.m.
“Both pitchers threw great in the Enterprise game,” said LoydStar coach Jonathan Breakfield. “Neither of them deserved tolose.
“Jarred showed a lot of guts and worked his way out of some bigjams,” Breakfield pointed out. “He also had the game-winninghit.”
Loyd Star 1, Enterprise 0
Evan Smith slapped a 2-out double in the bottom of the fifth.Cayce Falvey drew a walk off Enterprise pitcher Ryan Kennedy. JohnFloyd was hit by a pitch to load the bases, setting the stage forRogers who singled home the winning run.
Rogers (3-1) also was the winning pitcher. He fanned 9 battersand walked 4.
Kennedy fanned 11 and walked 4 in a losing cause.
Taylor Herrington doubled for the Yellow Jackets.
Loyd Star 9, West Lincoln 2
Ryan Wallace (3-1) pitched Loyd Star’s win. He struck out 3batters and walked 1, giving up 6 hits.
Designated hitter Josh McCaffrey had 3 hits for the Hornets.John Floyd and Drew Weaver doubled.
The Bears got doubles from Brett Rushing and Tyler Case. MattMagee was the losing pitcher.
Loyd Star 15, Bogue Chitto 6
Winning pitcher Drew Weaver (1-0) struck out 3 batters andwalked 2, allowing 4 hits.
The Hornets were powered by first baseman Ryan Wallace whohomered. Shortstop Cayce Falvey had 3 hits.
Seth Avants doubled and singled for the Bobcats. Cole Lairdabsorbed the setback.
