FLORENCE — Designated hitter Taylor Newman continued on hishome run tear Monday, swatting 2 homers in Brookhaven’s 7-2 triumphover the Florence Eagles in Division 6-4A baseball action. Newman,working as designated hitter, had 5 RBIs. His 3-run, second-inningshot got the Panthers rolling. He now has 7 homers this season.

Coach Randy Spring’s Ole Brook Panthers (10-3, 3-1) leaveWednesday for the Waco, Texas Tournament. They’ll play T.L. Whiteof Dallas in the opening round Thursday, starting at 5 p.m. They’llsee more baseball action Friday and Saturday before returninghome.

Sophomore Brandon Foster (2-0) pitched the win over Florence. In5 innings, he gave up 6 hits, walked 4 and fanned 4.

Foster got 2 innings of hitless relief help. Bud Britt fanned 2batters and walked none, holding the Eagles hitless in the sixth.Cole Newell fanned 1 batter in the seventh.
