Central, Co-lin split

WESSON — The Co-Lin Lady Wolves splits a fastpitch softballdoubleheader with the East Central Lady Warriors Tuesday afternoon.East Central is the defending Central Division Champion.
East Central rallied for five later runs for an 8-6 comeback winin the first game. The Lady Wolves came back to beat the LadyWarriors 3-1 in the finale.
Co-Lin hosts East Mississippi Thursday for two games. The firstgame begins at 2 p.m.

We did not capitalize on our opportunities as we left 9 runnersstranded,” said Co-Lin head softball coach Allen Kent. “The bottomof our lineup didn’t produce. East Central took full advantage oftheir walks, hit batsmen and our errors.”
Erin Douglass took the loss, allowing 9 hits in 5 2/3 innings.Douglass walked 2, hit 2 batters and struck out 3. Caroline Burksworked the final 1 1/3 innings, giving up 4 hits and hitting abatter.
Freshmen third baseman Meleah Brown ripped 2 doubles and 2singles for 3 RBI and scored a run. Annie Selman doubled, singled,stole a base and scored twice. Singling and scoring runs wereKaylin Burke and Candace Braxton.
Co-Lin 3, East Central 1
East Central took a 1-0 lead in the first inning. Co-Lin cameback with 3 runs in the bottom of the sixth to take a 3-1 lead andeventual win.
Douglass led off the sixth with a single and Brown beat our abunt single. Kayla Crochet singled to right field to load thebases. With one out, designated hitter Ashley Sykes hit a sacrificefly to centerfield to tie the score 1-1. Lauren Smith’s grounder tosecond base resulted in an error, allowing 2 more runs to score togive the Lady Wolves the 3-1 lead.
In the bottom of the seventh, East Central’s cleanup hitterShanique Brass tripled off the wall in center. Crochet slammed thedoor shut by striking out the next 3 batters and swinging themomentum.
Crochet recorded 11 strikeouts and walked one. She scattered 4hits with no earned runs.
“This is the type of game Crochet is capable of having each timeshe goes out there,” added Kent. “We just need to give her more runsupport.”
