Authorities make third arrest in 1997 slaying

MONTICELLO – The mother of a murder suspect in a nearlydecade-old killing was arrested Wednesday on charges she helpedconceal the crime, authorities said.
Alma Lambert Greer, 82, of Lambert Road, Jayess, has beencharged with accessory after the fact of murder in the slaying ofWilliam Clayton “Clay” Lambert almost 10 years ago, said LawrenceCounty Sheriff Joel Thames. Greer was released on a $5,000 bondWednesday afternoon.
“She’s not a flight risk and we took her age and health intoconsideration,” the sheriff said.
Greer’s son, Henry Lambert, 50, of Lambert Road, was arrestedand charged with murder Tuesday. Her daughter-in-law, SandraLambert, 41, has been released on a $5,000 bond after also havingbeen charged as an accessory after the fact of murder.
Thames alleged that Greer and Sandra Lambert had been livingwith the knowledge of the crime for years.
“They’ve known since the night of murder,” he said.
Clay Lambert, 32, of Lambert Road, Jayess, died of singlegunshot wound to the neck from a small caliber handgun on July 31,1997. His decomposing body was found Aug. 8, 1997, in the back ofhis red Ford pickup in a wooded area off Evans Loop Road on thewestern edge of the county within feet of the Lawrence-Lincolncounty line.
The sheriff has declined to reveal the motive and details behindthe crime.
“I can’t go into the motive right now,” he said. “But everyoneknew they had an ongoing feud.”
Chad Lambert, Clay Lambert’s brother, said after Henry Lambert’sarrest Tuesday that the families were related, but did not have aclose relationship.
“He lives nearby, but we’ve never really had any dealings withhim or his family,” he said.
