Co-Lin sweeps East Miss.

WESSON — The Co-Lin Lady Wolves swept a fastpitch softballdoubleheader with the East Mississippi Lady Lions Thursdayafternoon.
Co-Lin won the opener 7-0 and the finale 11-3.
The Lady Wolves (15-5) hosts LSU-Eunice today for two games,beginning at 1 p.m.
Co-Lin 7, East Miss 0
Freshman Meleah Brown pitched a no-hit shutout in the firstgame. Brown fanned 11 batters and issued no walks. Only two runnersreached base, one on a strikeout and a passed ball and the other onan error.
“Meleah threw a great game,” said Co-Lin head coach Allen Kent.”She stayed ahead in the count, had great velocity and goodmovement. Lauren Smith did a great job behind the plate.” BrokeCast and Kayla Crochet combined to preserve the no-hitter in thefifth.
At the plate, Brown ripped a double, an RBI single and scored arun for the Lady Wolves.
Crocket smashed a solo home run, and RBI single and 2 runsscored for Co-Lin. Ashley Sykes hit a 2-run double. Allyson Wallaceand Kaylin Burke each hit RBI doubles.

The Lady Wolves exploded for 8 runs in the first inning off of 7hits and a walk.
Annie Selman led off the first inning with a double and scoredon Erin Douglass’ single. Douglas stole second and Brown walked.Crochet had a bunt single to load the bases. With one out,designated hitter Allyson Wallace doubled, driving in 3 runs. KadyKing singled to score Wallace. King scored on an error and BritneeSmith drove in a run. Douglass drive in her second run of theinning on a single to center.
East Miss. scored 2 runs in the top of the third and 1 in thefourth cutting the deficit to 8-3.
Co-Lin scored 2 runs in the bottom the fourth to push its leadto 10-3. Burke walked, stole second base and scored on LaurenSmith’s double. Sykes singled., Smith scored on a single byKing.
In the bottom of the sixth, King doubled and Britnee Smithsingled to left to score King to end the game.
King led the Lady Wolves with a double, 2 singles, 2 RBI and 2runs scored in the second game. Hitting safely was CandaceBraxton.
Freshman Caroline Burkes posted the win with 2 strikeouts, 1walks, 5 hits scattered and 1 earned run.
“Caroline had a good outing, he defense let her down early withthe 2 unearned runs,” said Kent. “She stayed ahead in the countmost of the day and let the defense help her.”
