The Loyd Star Lady Hornets captured the Lincoln County FastpitchRound-Robin Tournament Saturday at West Lincoln. Loyd Star beatBogue Chitto 5-0 in the first game, knocked off Enterprise 17-5 inthe second contest and finished with a 2-1 win in 8 innings overWest Lincoln.
Loyd Star (11-7) travels to Brookhaven for a makeup gametonight. The first game begins at 5 p.m. followed by the varsity at6.
“We won the tournament,” said Loyd Star girls coach JanDelaughter.
Freshman Brooke Delaughter (8-4) went 3-0 in the tournament.
Loyd Star 5, Bogue Chitto 0
Loyd Star freshman pitcher Brooke Delaughter struck out 10batters, walked 0 batters and allowed 1 hit in the first game.Kelli Howard absorbed the loss,
Powering the Lady Hornets at the plate was Brittany Beeson with2 singles.
Loyd Star 17, Enterprise 5
In the second game, Ariel Hunsucker started on the mound but wasrelieved by Delaughter midway in the game.
The teams were tied 3-all after four innings. In the fifth, LoydStar exploded for 14 runs on their way to the win.
Calleye Douglas tripled and singled 3 times for the LadyHornets. Annie Smith doubled and singled twice. Doubling andsingling were Lyndsey Duckworth. Emily Smith and Carrie Moak eachsingled twice.
Loyd Star 2, West Lincoln 1
It took 8 innings before Loyd Star scored the winning run.Heather Huff was the losing hurler.
Beeson doubled twice and singled for the Lady Hornets. HaleySones and Emily Smith each singled twice.
