Loyd Star girls grab division win

Brooke Delaughter fanned 11 batters and walked six in sparkingthe host Loyd Star Lady Hornets to an 11-3 division win over theSeminary Lady Bulldogs Thursday night in fastpitch softballaction.
“We played well and we hit the ball.,” said Loyd Star coach JanDelaughter. “Hopefully, we can do that in the playoffs. I am gladthat we won district.”
Loyd Star (16-9, 4-0) hosts West Lincoln Tuesday. Seminary fellto 7-11 overall and 0-2 in division play.
“We had a rough first inning,” said Seminary coach Ryan Hodge.”We did not hit the ball. Our defense picked up the pace after thefirst inning. Loyd Star Coach does a great job with her kids.”
The Lady Hornets jumped on the Lady Bulldogs 7-0 in the firstinning. Seminary cut the deficit to 7-3 in the top of the third.Loyd Star responded with 3 runs in the fifth and 1 in the sixth tosecure the win.
Loyd Star outhit Seminary 11-4. The Lady Bulldogs committed 4errors to the Lady Hornets’ 2.
Calleye Douglas powered Loyd Star with 3 singles. Annie Smithand Carrie Moak each singled twice.
Junior varsity play
Loyd Star put away Seminary 7-2 in JV action.
The winning pitcher was Brittany Wallace with 5 strikeouts and 4walks.
Tripling for the Lady Hornets was Emily Smith. Brooke Delaughterand Beeson singled.
