Calling all cooks! Time to submit recipes

Spring is in the air and with it comes an annual readerfavorite, the Wooden Spoon Cookbook.

This is the 30th anniversary for the cookbook, which willpublish on Friday, June 15.

Over the past 30 years many, many great recipes have beenpublished in the cookbook. Now in its 30th year, even more areexpected.

Premiering in this year’s cookbook is a new category for busyfamilies called 30-Minute Meals. This will include recipes that canbe prepared and cooked in 30 minutes or less.

Contestants can also enter the standard categories ofAppetizers; Soups, Salads, Fruits; Main Dish; Vegetables; Dessertsand Sweets; and Bread and Rolls.

Ramona Cambell was last year’s grand prize winner with”Polynesian Chicken Salad With Baby Spinach.” She received $300, aswell as $50 for winning the Soups, Salads and Fruit category.

The deadline to submit recipes will be Wednesday, May 9.

Judges will then go over the recipes in each category and selectfinalists. The finalists will then be required to prepare theirdish on a specific day so the judges can make their finalselections based on the taste of the dish.

Winners will be announced at an awards presentation on Thursday,June 14. Each category winner will receive $50, with the grandprize winner receiving $300.

As in years past, anyone in The DAILY LEADER’s and the SouthwestMississippi Shopping Bag’s circulation area is eligible to enter.Employees of the newspaper and their immediate families are noteligible to enter the main contest, but will have a separatecategory of their own.

Each contestant may enter one recipe in each of the seven prizecategories. Recipes should be typed or legibly written on one sideof an 8 1/2 x 11 inch sheet of paper. Entrants should not put theirnames on the recipe sheet but should affix an official Wooden Spoonentry form or copy to the sheet. (See page 12 for furtherrules.)

Entries should be postmarked no later than May 9 to be eligiblefor the contest. Late, illegible or incomplete entries will bedisqualified.
