Jayess man killed in accident

A Jayess man was killed in a one-vehicle accident on Highway 587Monday around 9 p.m., authorities said.
Mississippi Highway Patrol Public Affairs Officer Rusty Boydsaid Kim Cupstid, 46, of Jayess, was killed when his pickup truckleft the road and struck an embankment about 11.8 miles south ofHighway 184 at 8:54 p.m.
“We believe he lost control, possibly over-corrected, and hitthe embankment,” said Boyd. “The vehicle burned.”
Lawrence County Coroner Sidney Fortenberry said it is believedCupstid was on his way to his uncle’s house, which was about a milefrom the scene of the accident.
“We don’t know if there was a blowout or a mechanical problem,but it left the road, and when it came down it landed upright inthe ditch,” he said. “He was in the vehicle but not trapped, wedon’t know if he was conscious or not.”
Officials say the vehicle left he road to the left side.
The accident it still under investigation.
