Loyd Star honors athletes’ achievements at banquet

Valedictorian Phillip Maher and Salutatorian Cass Sellersreceived Scholastic Awards Thursday night during the Loyd StarAthletic Banquet at the Multi-Purpose Building.

Loyd Star Principal Wayne Rogers welcomed the parents, playersand guests to the banquet.

“It has been a good year,” said Rogers. “I appreciate you parentswho support these kids.”

Coaches from all nine sports briefly discussed their respectiveseasons before handing out awards.

Receiving Most Valuable Player honors were Jaime Benge, girlssoccer; Cass Sellers, boys soccer; Haley Sones, fastpitch softball;Rickey Barnes, Matthew Henderson, boys basketball; Shannon Chester,girls basketball; Hunter Speeg, football; Jarred Rogers, baseball;Will Smith, golf; Carlie Smith, girls tennis and cheerleading andJeffie Smith, boys tennis.

Fastpitch softball coach Jan Delaughter presented Curtis Smith withthe special award for all the hard work and support he has given toLoyd Star athletics. Smith received a standing ovation from thecrowd.

Athletic director Billy Vaughn presented the scholastic awards.

Before adjourning, Rogers, Vaughn and the coaching staff presented3-year lettermen jackets to the athletes.
