FC places 3 softball teams in tourney

MEADVILLE – The Franklin County Softball All-Stars are StateTournament bound, the FC Stars will represent the SouthwestMississippi region in the Dixie Girls fastpitch softball statetournament,July 6-13, at the Brookhaven Sports Complex.

“We have three teams from three different age groupsrepresenting us in the State Tournament,” said FC softball vet PamRushing, who will serve as an assistant coach on the 13-15 year oldFC All-Star team aside Christie Thornton.

Three teams from Franklin County will participate in the StateTournament.

Making up the 13-15 year-old roster will be Karlee Mullins, KeKeCollins, Diamond Newman, Halley Crosby, Rachel Dier, Allison Hauer,Heidi Thornton, Courtney Reid, Tammy Alexander, Vandrianne Norman,and Shelby Lofton.

Heidi Thornton will serve as the teams number one pitcher. She went13-0 during regular season play in the FC Dixie Girls Softballleague. Leading hitters on the team are KeKe Collins, CourtneyReid, Vintrice Briggs, and Karlee Mullins.

The 11-12 year FC All-Stars will be made up of Kim McDowell,Siedriq Middleton, Trynise McKnight, Latoya Griffin, BriannaGrayson, Sarah Clanton, Jordan King, Sarah Case, Alex Farrell, andDeAnna Cothren.

Coaching the team will be Sammy Rushing, Mickey Wallace, and KevinCrosby.

As for the 7-8 year old FC All-Stars, the team will consist ofMontana Lofton, Brandi O’Neal, Scarlett Zumbro, Emily Strittman,Tyneisha Anderson, Tainya Robinson, Hunter White, Neol Parker,Morgan Rushing, and Kenyatta Griffin.

Cody Stewart and Randy Atkins will serve as coaches of the 7-8 yearolds

Opening ceremonies will take place Friday, July 6. The tournamentwill run through July 13, and is under the double eliminationformat.
