LaVelle Oden Hayes
Services for LaVelle Oden Hayes, of Bogue Chitto, are 3 p.m.Friday, July 20, at Community Funeral Services Chapel with burialin Edwards Cemetery in Brookhaven.
Mr. Hayes, 71, died July 18, 2007, at Countrybrook LivingCenter. He was born on Feb. 25, 1936, to Robert Hayes and MarthaNowel.
He was employed with Lincoln County. He was a member ofBrookhaven Church of God.
Preceding him in death were his parents; his brothers, Johnny,Edd, James and Arlee Hayes; and his sister, Agnus Bishop.
He is survived by a host of nieces and nephews and friends.
Doris Bell Russell
Services for Doris Bell Russell, of Jackson, are 2 p.m.Saturday, July 21, in the chapel of Wright & Ferguson FuneralHome on High Street in Jackson with burial following in LakewoodMemorial Park.
Visitation is Saturday from 1 p.m. until the time of the serviceat the funeral home.
Mrs. Russell, 90, died July 17, 2007, at Ridgeland Pointe.
She was born on Sept. 9, 1916, in Greenwood, the daughter ofDecatur and Eva Bell. She graduated from the public school systemin Greenwood and continued her education at Mississippi College.She and her husband, Edward, moved to Jackson in 1946, and hebecame a partner in the family wholesale grocery business, theRussell Company. In 1954 they moved to Vicksburg where he took overa division of the company. In 1977, they
returned to Jackson to retire. Mrs. Russell was a member ofFaith Presbyterian Church in Brookhaven, the Daughters of theAmerican Revolution, United Daughters of the Confederacy, ColonialDames, Colonial Clergy, and the United Daughters of the War of1812.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Edward H.Russell; her brother, Billy West Bell and her sister, Allene B.Ulrich.
Survivors are her son, Edward H. Russell Jr. and wife Cindy, ofNew York City; her daughters, Diane Russell, of Andalusia, Ala.,Carol Russell, of Naples, Italy, Merrie Boerner and husband Bill,of Brookhaven; and Nancy Reno and husband Jerry, of Brookhaven; her15 grandchildren, including Brad Boerner and wife Lissa, and theirdaughter Quinn, of Brookhaven; Michael Boerner, of Jackson; BetsyB. Belk and husband Nic, and their daughter Violet, of Brookhaven;Jenny and Dustin Byars, of Starkville, Russ McNees, of Booneville,and Josh Reno, of Brookhaven. Mrs. Russell had a total of 15great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to French Camp Academy, French Camp,Miss.
Grafton T. Smith
Graveside services for Grafton T. Smith, of Lakewood, Wash., are11 a.m. Saturday, July 21, at Heuck’s Retreat Cemetery.
Mr. Smith, 84, died May 26, 2007. He was born in Lincoln Countyto Coney Travis Smith and Timmie Smith.
He attended Heuck’s Retreat High School and worked with theCivilian Conservation Corps. He was a veteran of the United StatesArmy and served his country during World War II. He retired fromthe U.S. Army and the Civil Service, and was disabled. He was amember of the Baptist faith.
Preceding him in death were his parents; his sisters, LoreneFurlow and Geraldine McGraw; and his brother, Billie Smith.
Survivors are his wife, Linda K. Smith, of Lakewood; hisbrothers, A.J. Smith, of Brookhaven, and Jimmy Smith, of Wesson;his sisters, Sarah Smith, of Brookhaven, and Flo Massey, of SourLake, Texas; and his nieces, nephews and friends.
Dorothy Lee Yates
Services for Dorothy Lee Yates, of Jayess, are 2 p.m. Saturday,July 21, at Wilson Funeral Home Chapel in Monticello with burial inRoberts Memorial Cemetery in Monticello.
Visitation is Friday from 5 until 9 p.m. at the funeralhome.
Mrs. Yates, 85, died July 19, 2007, at her residence after along battle with Alzheimer’s disease. She was born on Jan. 7, 1922,to John Tullis and Delia Rushing Tullis.
She was a retired seamstress with Kellwood. She was a member ofTopeka Baptist Church.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, BarnieYates; her brothers, William Tullis and Les Thornhill; and hersisters, Patty Thornhill Bullock, Mattie Renfroe, Hettie Reid,Betty Miller, Etta Dickerson McCulough, Henyre Reid and SueLambert; and her great-grandson.
Survivors are her daughters, Euna Deer, of Ft. Walton Beach,Fla., Virginia Deer and Sharon Bardwell, both of McComb; herbrother, John Tullis, of Jayess; her sister, Glyndon Frazier, ofNatchez; her grandchildren, Wayne, Glen and Ray Deer, BrendaGaston, Deborah Roberts, Deloras Young, Donna Dyess, TraceyBardwell and Dawn Greer; 15 great-grandchildren; and threegreat-great-grandchildren.
