Hazlehurst rallies past Franklin Co.

MEADVILLE — When Kristin Oglesby went down, so did the FranklinCounty Lady Bulldogs Tuesday night. A slight cut on Oglesby’sforehead knocked her out of the game and her team’s chances as wellin the top of the fourth inning, as the Hazlehurst Lady Indiansexploded for seven runs with two outs against them to take a 9-6victory over FCHS in Class 3A slowpitch softball action.

Franklin County resumes play Thursday evening at 5:30 againstCrystal Springs.

The Lady Bulldogs (5-4, 0-1) roared out to a 2-0 lead in the firstinning, before watching the Lady Indians (7-3, 1-0) tie the game at2-apiece in the second frame.

In the fourth inning, an outfield clash between FC outfieldersMonea Cameron and Kristin Oglesby resulted in Cameron’s elbowdecking Oglesby in the upper forehead, as Cameron made an acrobaticcatch.

“Kristin getting hurt, really hurt us,” said FC coach Dana Smith,who is assisted by Mickey Smith. “Errors hurt us too.”

The game was delayed 20-minutes, due to Oglesby’s injury. She wasreplaced in the outfield by Destiny DeDeaux.

Hazlehurst exploded for seven runs, after the accident, encouragedby three FC fielding errors.

FC mounted a late comeback, scoring two runs in the fifth and sixthrespectfully.

Senior Heather Havard was saddled with the loss for the LadyBulldogs, striking out one. Havard is 5-2 on the season.

Hazlehurst’s Shannon Rockingham collected the win, with a strikeoutand three walks.

At the plate, the Lady Indians were led by Key Shannon with twosingles. Vicki Stewart, Kia Funchess, and Michelle Harrissingled.

For Franklin County, Morgan Knapp and Monea Cameron had two singlesapiece. Kacey Smith, Shonique Cameron, Jennifer Thornton, andTaylor Stewart doubled. Destiny DeDeaux collected a single.
