Dr. Robert E. Jones
Dr. Robert E. Jones: A loving husband, father, grandfather andfriend, he died Aug. 30, 2007 after a brief illness.
He was a retired educator who held a doctorate of education fromJackson State University, as well as two master’s degrees and aspecialist degree from Mississippi State University.
Over the years, Dr. Jones served as director of special serviceswith Brookhaven City Schools, worked in the Mississippi StateDepartment of Education System, and was a professor at MississippiCollege, Alcorn State and Copiah-Lincoln Community College.
“Dr. Bob” had a love of gardening, and was an avidhorticulturist. He was also an accomplished artist and a gourmetcook.
He was preceded in death by several brothers and sisters and hisson, Jeffrey Thomas Jones.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Olive Watts Jones, ofBrookhaven; three sons and one daughter-in-law, Robert B. Jones andLisa Jones, of Baton Rouge, La., Timothy M. Jones and Oliver A.Jones, both of Brookhaven; two sisters, Nita Boleware, of Prentiss,and Ninnie Vee Daughdrill, of Magee; six grandchildren and a hostof nieces and nephews.
Visitation is Aug. 31, 2007, from 2 until 4 p.m. at RiverwoodFamily Funeral Service. Services will follow at 4 p.m. in thechapel officiated by the Rev. Willie Welch, with burial NewProspect Church Cemetery.
Deborah Ann McClelland Oliver
Services for Deborah Ann McClelland Oliver, of Hammond, La.,,were 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 31, at Community Funeral Services withburial in Summit City Cemetery.
Mrs. Oliver, 50, died Aug. 25, 2007, at her residence. She wasborn on June 30, 1957, to James McClelland and CarolynMcClelland.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her sister and herbrother.
Survivors are her daughters, Shannon Anthony, of Loranger, La.,and Theresa Sanders, of Denham Springs, La.; her brothers, TonyMcClelland, Don McClelland and Tom McClelland, all of Hazlehurst,and David McClelland, of Summit; her sisters, Pam Anderson, ofDentville and Patricia Easley, of Prairieville, La.; and her eightgrandchildren.
Micheal H. Russell
Services for Micheal H. Russell, of Monticello, are 11 a.m.Saturday, Sept. 1, at Wilson Funeral Home Chapel in Monticello withburial in New Zion Baptist Church Cemetery in Monticello.
Visitation is Friday from 5 until 9 p.m. at the funeralhome.
Mr. Russell, 47, died Aug. 29, 2007, at Mississippi BaptistMedical Center in Jackson. He was born on Dec. 29, 1959, to HenryRussell and Ann James Russell, both of Monticello.
He was a steelworker with Double G Coatings. He was a member ofNew Zion Baptist Church and a Mason. He was a member of the Sons ofConfederate Veterans.
Survivors are his parents; his sons, Micheal Paul Russell, ofMonticello, and Caleb Aaron Russell, of Brookhaven; his brothers,Tim Russell, of Terry, and Rusty Russell, Mark Russell and PhillipRussell, all of Monticello; and his sister, Kristi Landrum, ofMonticello.
Billy Joe Rutland
Services for Billy Joe Rutland, of Brookhaven, are 11 a.m.Saturday, Sept. 1, at Providence Baptist Church in Lawrence Countywith burial in the church cemetery. Brookhaven Funeral Home is incharge of arrangements.
Visitation is Friday from 6 until 9 p.m. at the church.
Mr. Rutland, 71, died Aug. 30, 2007, at Haven Hall Nursing CareCenter. He was born in Ruth on July 24, 1936, to Ham Rutland andLoubirta Givens Rutland.
He was a production manager with Transcontinental Oil. He was amember of Providence Baptist Church. He was a veteran of the UnitedStates Army.
Preceding him in death were his parents; his brother, Hobson E.Rutland; his niece, Rhonda Ray Simpson; and his nephew, TimothyRutland.
Survivors are his daughter, Teresa James Harvey, of Brookhaven;his brother, Gordon Rutland, of Jayess; his sister, Rose Ray, ofBrandon; and his grandchildren, LeWaire, Erica Jo and Rebecca.
