Man dies in mishap with police chief

A Franklinton, La. man is dead after a Friday afternoon vehiclecollision with Tylertown Police Chief Norvell Cotten inside theTylertown city limits, authorities said.

Mississippi Highway Patrol Public Affairs Officer Sgt. RustyBoyd said the accident occurred around 12:45 p.m. Friday when JarodT. Boyd, 31, ran a stop sign at the intersection of Highway 198 andMartin Luther King Dr.

“The chief was headed west on 198 when Boyd ran the stop signand came out in front of him,” Boyd said.

Cotten was driving a 2006 Ford Crown Victoria owned by the Cityof Tylertown, and Boyd was the driver of a 1999 Dodge Stratus.

Boyd said both drivers were taken to Walthall General Hospital,where Jarod Boyd was pronounced dead. Cotten suffered moderateinjuries from the accident.
