Williams can play end, linebacker

LaTerrius Williams of Brookhaven can play either defensive endor outside linebacker. He led the Panthers in tackles Friday nightin Ole Brook’s 20-12 road win over the Mendenhall Tigers.
His 10 tackles, including 2 quarterback sacks, earned WilliamsThe DAILY LEADER’s Defensive Player of the Week honor. Williams(6-1, 222) is a muscular junior who has helped the Panthers (4-1,2-0) own a share of the top rung in the Region 6-4A race.
“I like playing defensive end,” said Williams. “Our defensetries to get better every week. We want to have fun on thefield.”
Williams earned a starting job last season as a sophomore. Hewas playing the right side and senior Larry Winters was on theleft. Winters, a Copiah-Lincoln Community College scholarshipsignee, was killed in an auto accident during the Labor Dayweekend.
Ole Brook players are wearing a No. 89 decal on their helmetsthis year to honor Winters. “It’s good to wear his decal,” saidWilliams.
Panther defensive coordinator Rod Henderson said Williams isliving up to preseason expectations. “We have played him atmultiple positions and he has done a good job for us this year. Wealways knew he could play well.”
