New recreational lake set for Nov. 7 opening

Officials anticipate anglers and recreational enthusiasts of allkinds will descend on Franklin County in November to welcome theopening of one of the state’s largest lakes.

The 1,075-acre recreation lake, located off Highway 98 aboutthree miles from Meadville, will open Nov. 7 with two boat ramps,six parking areas and a restroom, said Tim Slone, deputy districtranger for the U.S. Forest Service.

Double-laned boat ramps have been completed near the dam and atthe south end of the lake. The restroom is located on south endnear a parking lot and the boat ramp, Slone said.

The parking lots will eventually be paved, he said.

“We’re leaving them as gravel right now until we get some otherinfrastructure in,” he said.
