COLLINSVILLE — The Lawrence County Lady Cougars took a giantstep forward in the Class 4A state slowpitch softball playoffsTuesday. They swept West Lauderdale 10-6 and 8-4.

The Lady Cougars (20-7) play at D’Iberville or Picayune Saturdayin the second round. It will be a best-of-three series.

“My leadoff batter (Shaina Starks) hit a home run in the firstgame,” said LCHS head coach Jill Haney. “That got us going.Everybody hit the ball well.”

Bridgee Williams pitched both victories over WestLauderdale.
