Banks cashes in 34 points; Coahoma wins over Wolves

WESSON — Roosevelt Banks pumped in a game-high 34 points Mondaynight, leading the Coahoma Community College Tigers to an 85-75 winover Co-Lin’s Wolves in their season opener. Banks sacked 7 treysin Mullen Gymnasium.
“Coahoma played very well and they played aggressive,” saidCo-Lin men’s coach Dennis Sims. “We had too many turnovers (20) andwe made crucial turnovers when we had the lead,” at 67-66.
That’s when Coahoma regained the lead as the Tigers made 2 straighttreys off 3 Co-Lin turnovers.
Leading Co-Lin in scoring was freshman guard Trent Hutchin with 24points. The Baton Rouge product also had 5 rebounds, 2 steals and 2assists.
Greg Truvillion, Co-Lin’s preseason All-American post player, added12 points, 10 rebounds and 1 blocked shot. Truvillion had beenslowed by knee surgery prior to the season.
Freshman Lawanski Newsome was the third Co-Lin player in doubledigits, scoring 10 points.
“We played hard and defended well,” said Coahoma coach IraPeterson. “We were able to make plays and key stops to win.”
Peterson had 3 players join Banks in double figures. Tinsley Cowanadded 14 points, AntywanJones 11 and Jejuan Jacks 10.
Coahoma outrebounded Co-Lin 41-31, led by Banks who had 7rebounds.
Co-Lin resumes play Thursday night at Holmes Community College inGoodman. The women’s game tips off at 6 p.m., followed by the menat 7:30.
