Bobcats blitz Bears

BOGUE CHITTO — Junior quarterback Seth Avants rushed thefootball 8 times for 83 and 3 touchdowns to spark the Bogue ChittoBobcats in a 53-12 Region 4-1A win over the winless West LincolnBears Friday night at Troy Smith Field.

Avants completed 5 of 5 passes for 93 yards and a TD.

The win improved Bogue Chitto’s region and overall record to 8-1.West Lincoln falls to 0-9 overall and 0-8 in region action.

“We played a good game,” said Bogue Chitto head football coachGareth Sartin. “We managed to get points off turnovers early andtake control of the game. We did make some mistake and had someturnovers ourselves. We must solve that problem before our gamenext week (at Mt. Olive).

“West Lincoln was able to drive the ball on a regular basis,” addedSartin. “But turnovers hurt them. I am pleased to get the win.”

West Lincoln head coach Brooks Burns had no comment after theloss.

The Bears led in turnovers, losing five while the Bobcats hadthree.

Bogue Chitto posted 2 touchdowns in the first quarter for a 12-0lead. Donyea Dillon scored on a 14-yard run at the 4:13 mark andCole Laird ran in a 6-yarder with 1:28 left. Both extra pointattempts failed.

In the second quarter, the Bobcats exploded for 4 touchdowns andscored 27 points to push their lead to 39-0 at the half.

Scoring TDs for Bogue Chitto were Avants on 6 and a 7-yard runs,James Anderson on a 52-yard fumble recovery return and a 40-yardpass-play from Avants to Dillon with 32 seconds left to play.Anderson kicked 5 of 6 PATs in the remainder of the game.

In the third quarter, Avants broke loose for 19-yard TD and RobertAnderson ran the final Bobcat TD from 3-yards out as the hostspushed their lead to 53-0.

With 4:16 left in the third quarter, West Lincoln’s Jeremy Byrdexploded for a 53-yard touchdown run and cut the deficit to53-6.

The Bears scored their last TD of the game with 10:57 remaining onan 18-yard run by Cardell Porter.

Contributing to the Bobcat win with 6 rushes for 87 yards wasDillon. Laird finished with 27 yards on 5 carries.

The Bears got 17 carries for 55 yards from Porter. Jamie Rushingfinished with 31 yards on 11 carries. Byrd rushed 8 times for 103yards.

For Bogue Chitto, Robinson led the receivers with 2 catches for 19yards.

Defensively, Scotty Brown and Austin Jones led Bogue Chittowith 10 tackles apiece. James Anderson and Brown recovered 2fumbles apiece. Robert Anderson recovered a fumble.

The Bears got 16 tackles from Kolby Burris. Jamie Rushing finishedwith 14 stops. Calvin Kees had 6 tackles. Recovering a fumble wereJamie Rushing, Friis and Porter.
