Wesson sweeps Dexter

WESSON — Wesson sophomore Ann Shelby Davis pumped in agame-high 21 points, as the Lady Cobras picked up a 64-21 win overthe Dexter Lady Bulldogs Saturday night.

The Wesson Cobras opened their season with a 67-44 win over theDexter Bulldogs.

In junior high action, Dexter defeated Wesson 45-19 in the boysgame. Wesson beat Dexter 40-18 in the girls game.

Wesson travels to Natchez Cathedral Tuesday for 3 games, beginningat 5 p.m. with a JV game. The varsity doubleheader gets under wayaround 6. Dexter participates in the West Marion TournamentTuesday.

Wesson 64, Dexter 21

The Lady Cobras (1-2) got their initial win of the year, behindDavis who played only 3 quarters. She also had 2 assists and 4steals. Wesson, coached by Hugh Webb, led 15-4 heading into thesecond period.

Dexter (0-1), coached by Zachary Ratcliff, dressed only 7 players.The Lady Bulldogs trailed 27-10 at the intermission, sacking 7 freethrows and a layup.

Lending support for the Lady Cobras were Marian Allen with 14points and 2 steals. Ansley Schimmel pumped in 10 points (2 treys)and dished out 2 assists. Leah Greer led off the boards with 3rebounds.

“Glad to get the first win,” said Coach Webb following the game.”We lost two close games in the Copiah Academy Tournament that weshould have won.”

Webb was referring to losses to Copiah Academy (35-33) andHillcrest Christian (42-41).

Wesson 67, Dexter 44

The Cobras (1-0) made their season debut with 2 players indouble-figures. Lonnie Reeves led all scorers with 21 points, 5assists and 2 steals. Cody King pumped in 11 points and dished out2 assists. Wesson head coach Ron Keesler was pleased to get thewin, but saw room for improvement.

“Always glad to get the first win,” said Coach Kessler. “We have todo a better job of playing defense.”

Wesson led 16-5 after one period and 34-21 at halftime.

The Bulldogs (0-1), coached by Steve Fortenberry, were shorthanded,as they dressed 6 players. Carlos Crumedy led Dexter with 17points, 9 rebounds, 2 assists and 4 steals. Mario Miller added 11points.

Kessler’s squad got support from Josh Hart with 13 rebounds, 3assists and 2 blocked shots. Josh Hood grabbed 6 rebounds.

Junior Varsity Action

The Lady Cobras were led by Dylann Harris with 10 points. TaylorGamble paced Dexter with 10 points.

Dante’ Butler topped Dexter with 13 points. Barron Miller ledWesson with 6 points.
